Mr. Evil gets around. He’s been to lots of places and meets leaders, politicians, and candidates from all over.
I’ve met Presidents and Governors. I’ve dined with Ambassadors (and even cooked Christmas dinner for a Spanish Ambassador, but that’s another story entirely). I know Senators and Representatives, mayors and local politicians. Some I think very highly of and others are literally the scum of the earth. As a former unbiased journalist, I only reported the facts, never my opinions. However, I’m no longer a fact-bound journalist (If they even still exist, they’re certainly unicorns). I’m a blogger and I’m free to state my opinions.
While visiting friends last week, it was refreshing when I met a young conservative man, a law student, only 23 years-old, who’s running for State Representative in the 115th District of Illinois, a rural and largely Republican area in the southern part of the state. What impressed me most is that he’s idealistic and really believes in the future and that he can make a difference, sort of like the Jefferson Smith character in the 1939 film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Like Mr. Smith, he’s also willing to fight for what’s right, not for what’s popular. His name is Zachary Meyer. At first, he didn’t strike my as a politician; he’s quiet and seems somewhat reserved. However, when he does speak out, it’s obvious that he knows and understands the issues, and more importantly, he cares. He’s pro-life, pro second amendment, pro-veteran and business friendly, and believes we should be taxed and governed less. In short, he impressed me.
If you’re in the 115th District of Illinois, I’m not going to tell you to vote for young and idealistic Zachary Meyer. Instead, I’m going to suggest you might want to learn more about him and his views, and if you like what he has to say, you should consider giving him your vote.
A few nights ago, I believe that I met new blood, someone who will be making a name for himself in Illinois because he’s honest and represents traditional American values. Don’t be surprised if, at some point in the future, you see him on the national stage. Let me be honest: he still has to prove himself. Given the chance, I think he will.
