A few days ago, I wrote about how it’s pure idiocy for people or governments to apologize for bad actions that occurred in the distant past, long before any of us were born and long after everyone involved is dead. In case you missed the article, here it is.
Apparently LaToya Cantrell, the Mayor of New Orleans, doesn’t read my blog, or if she does, she pays no attention to it.
She’s planning on giving an official apology to the 11 Italian-Americans who were attacked, beaten, and lynched by a mob in 1891 New Orleans, after they had been acquitted of murdering the police chief.
Mayor Cantrell will deliver the apology on April 12, where it will be proclaimed at the American Italian Cultural Center in New Orleans.
Unfortunately, those who were murdered won’t be there to hear it.
It’s a sad thing that 11 innocent men died at the hands of some of their intolerant neighbors 128 years ago. But no living person is responsible. No living person has the moral authority to apologize.
It’s time for our government leaders to serve those now living, not those long dead. And it’s time that these sort of meaningless apologies end forever!

My family has had lots of losers. They’ve hurt people. Please don’t hold me accountable for their actions. I’m not them. I’m me. Why isn’t that obvious?
It’s obvious to me!
