Christians around the world are celebrating Holy Week, which will end this Sunday with the most Holy day of the year, Easter.
There’s no doubt that there are many devout Christians throughout the world. However, Christianity may well be in real trouble.
Let’s jump to Bologna, Italy. I’ve been in Bologna, and as in much of Europe, when you go to Catholic Mass, a few old people sit in the pews. The average age is probably 75, and that’s only because there are two or three believers under 50. There are no young people, no enthusiastic Christian youth groups. It’s very sad.
But as the Christian faith diminishes in Europe, refugees from the Muslim world are being welcomed. Not only are they coming in mass, but they’re also offended by Christian beliefs and Christian symbols. They are fanatically loyal to their religion and want to impose it on everyone else. The traditions and values of the land that they are being welcomed into are inconsequential.
If you remember the Gospels, one of the 12 disciples, Judas Iscariot, betrayed Jesus by turning him over to the Roman authorities.
Now, according to Russia Today, in the small town of Pieve di Cento, just outside of Bologna, Christians are again betraying Christ by covering Christian crosses in a cemetery with black cloth so as not to offend the small Muslim population. According to Russia Today, the town is home to about 7,000 people, of which 90 percent claim to be Catholic.
An advisor for Pope Francis defended the covering of Christian crosses and icons, not only in this situation, but for others throughout the country, calling it a symbol of “love to the enemy and unconditional welcome.”
As a Catholic, I’m sad to say that the prayer we might need to ask this Easter is: “Lord, please protect Catholicism and Christianity from our Pope.”
Here’s my take on the situation. Something is far wrong when the Pope supports Muslim intolerance of Christians and Christianity, especially in the Christian world. He has not spoken out, only allowing an advisor to make a comment. However, he should have condemned this. If you’re willing to cover the symbols of your faith so as not to offend others, your faith has already been lost. When you hide the evidence of your Christian faith for shame or political correctness, you’ve betrayed Christ just as Judas Iscariot did. The only difference is that no one is going to give you 30 pieces of silver.
Unless things change soon, it won’t be that long before all of Europe is Muslim. When that happens, all symbols of Christianity on the continent will be gone forever.
And don’t think a Muslim America can’t happen. As politicians and leaders deny the Christian faith in favor of secularism, they are building an America ready to be taken over by Muslims, who won’t betray their religion.
Please don’t call yourself a Christian if you’re willing to be a traitor to your beliefs.
